Adriana Irving is often the first voice you’ll hear when you reach out to GMV, and it’s no surprise customers keep calling back again and again. We chatted with Adriana about her rural upbringing, her love of the outdoors, and the nicest things customers have said to her over the phone.

1. What gets you most excited about the world of transit?
I come from rural areas, and so when I started in transit I realized how much of a need there was for elderly folks that need rides to their appointments, or even younger people who maybe don’t have the means to afford a car or don’t want a car. Once I realized how big the need was in our rural areas, my love of transit started there.

2. What sets GMV apart in the world of customer service?
I’ve been at GMV for ten years and transit overall for twelve, and even though it’s a big world, it’s a small world. If you know somebody, someone else knows that person too, so you make big connections with the entire world. And GMV really allows me and everyone on the customer care side to be free thinkers and go forward to do everything necessary to help our customers.

3. What’s one of your proudest moments at GMV?
The main thing that I really appreciate and enjoy about our customers is when they give you a call and they ask, “Hey, how was your weekend?” or they know me by name, and when they call they’ll say, “I was hoping to get ahold of you!” It’s something that you don’t get at all jobs. We get told all the time we’re number one in customer service, and I get excited for that.

4. What do you enjoy most about the GMV culture?
It’s a family. Everyone that you work with in your group or in the office knows each other. We know each other by name, we know what we do and how we contribute. That’s something you don’t always get either. We’re not a number, we’re a name and a face.

5. What’s a fun fact about you that you want others to know?
I’m very much an outdoors person. My husband and I go hunting and fishing every weekend in the summertime. This year, we got our first big elk, and the elk was amazing. I did try to bring some meat to our offsite earlier this year but couldn’t quite make it happen. Next time!
