Meet the Team

5 Questions with Joshua Polimus

From transit sign installations to late-night sim racing, GMV Operations Engineer Joshua Polimus gives us a look at the work, culture, and hobbies that keep him driven.

1. What is your role on the GMV team?
I’m an operations engineer working within GMV’s Signs department. I’m responsible for creating work scopes and provisioning LED and LCD digital signs for installation at transit centers. I also conduct field visits to make sure everything is installed correctly, where I take measurements and assess the necessary bracketing for signs.

2. What gets you most excited about the world of transit?
At GMV, the work is never monotonous. Installations at different centers are never the same, and I get to be challenged every time. It really tests your grit, and I like that. Beyond that, being in the transit industry feels rewarding because it feels like I’m contributing to society as a whole. You can actually see how your work affects people’s daily lives, so I get instant gratification from that.

3. What’s one of your favorite things about the GMV culture?
My favorite thing about GMV culture is that everyone has a voice. You’re allowed to be your professional self, and you’re never forced into a box you don’t fit in. You get to control certain aspects of your career, and I feel in many ways like I can be my own boss here.

4. Can you tell us about one of your proudest moments at GMV?
My favorite project was the Signs installation in Des Moines, Iowa. That project was different from others because it involved a completely different type of sign and a new controller board. It was my first big project at GMV and I wanted to make the right impression, so there were times when I spent 14 hours straight in the warehouse provisioning those signs, doing all the work end to end. It pushed me to challenge myself and take some risks.

5. What’s a fun fact about you that you want others to know?
I’m heavy into sim racing! Right now, I’m playing Forza and slowly getting into iRacing, which is much more intense. You know, I’m pushing forty now, so I had to find something that was more dad-like for me to do. Right now I’m working toward building out a full setup, and I think I want to start getting more competitive with it.
